In this class...
Students will learn a great deal about the Spanish-speaking world; including language, culture, geography, and literature. Studying Spanish language and culture is not only fascinating but also an increasingly useful tool.
It is to our benefit that Spanish is spoken not only across the world by approximately 400 million people, but also in many regions within the United States. Our nation’s Spanish-speaking population enhances your student’s learning of Spanish and creates a sense of social and occupational need for Spanish language learners. Studying Spanish will also challenge your student’s sense of customary borders and enable them to participate more fully in the global community and marketplace.
High expectations have been set for our Spanish classroom at Kinston High School. To maximize the time you spend in our classroom, I have the following expectations of you:

- Graduation Requirements include the successful completion of two levels of a second language.
- Employers of all professions are seeking applicants who can speak and understand Spanish.
- Colleges desire students who have received good grades in second language classes.
- Spanish is the world’s third most spoken language, after Mandarin Chinese and English.
High expectations have been set for our Spanish classroom at Kinston High School. To maximize the time you spend in our classroom, I have the following expectations of you:
- Be respectful (punctuality, respectful language, throwing away trash, talking in turn)
- Be honest (do your own work, be real in class, let Ms. Mills know what’s going on)
- Have a growth mindset (making mistakes is ok if we grow from them, stay positive)
- Be professional (stay in dress code, food is for lunch, be collaborative)
- Be responsible (turn in your work on time, pick up your mail, be prepared for class)
Ensuring a student’s success is a partnership between the school and home. Please review these classroom rules and remember that yourare responsible for everything you do in our classroom. This personal responsibility includes accountability- if you choose not to meet expectations you will incur one or more of the following reminders in order to “refocus”; however, severity increases if you continue to misbehave and interrupt valuable learning time.
